Why Create a Leadership Program at Bosque School? • Schools of the Future must redesign their curriculum to meet the demands of the 21st century • Founding member of the Independent Curriculum Group • The Sofia Center • In a changed world, students must have opportunities to practice their leadership in real settings, which enhances their classroom learning • Bosque Ecosystem Monitoring Program • Service Learning Program • The school’s philosophy and structure allows for innovation and flexibility • Core values emphasize a student-centered curriculum, small classes, strong relationships, and a focus on the community, both on an off campus • History of an “entrepreneurial” approach to school improvement • Opportunity to create connections with Albuquerque community and business leaders to develop a model program for school-community partnerships on training future leaders

Future Programs: Leaders at School • Speaker Series on Leadership & Ethics • 3 speakers per year • Experts in the Classroom – invite local business and community leaders to classrooms and to help sponsor extracurricular activities like the Entrepreneurs’ Club • Community Leadership & Ethics Advisory Council – selected local leaders, trustees, faculty, administrators, parents, & students who assist with the development of the leadership program, especially its connection with local business and community leaders and the development of outreach programs

Timeline • Phase 1 (2012-2013) • Identify interested community leaders, faculty and staff, students, trustees, and parents to launch program • Develop mission and goals with community, specifically laying the foundation with the faculty • Create Community Leadership & Ethics Advisory Council with focus on Strategic Planning • Initiate Speaker Series on Leadership • Expand Experts in the Classroom Program • Enhance Student Internships & Mentoring Program through the Winterim Program • Phase 2 (2013-2014) • Begin developing Leadership Courses • Fund professional development on teaching leadership for interested faculty • Plan Middle School Leadership Summer Camp, Upper School Summer Institute in Leadership Formation & The Summer Leadership Project • Develop marketing materials for the program • Phase 3 (2014-2015) • Launch summer programs • Launch at least one leadership course • Write Handbook for Teaching Leadership Across the Curriculum • Evaluate the need for a half-time program coordinator
