  4. Building a Team Follow the THREE R’s. 1. REGISTER your team online • Set a fundraising goal. Be both optimistic AND realistic! • Upload pictures, videos, and other fun stuff to profile your team and track your success. 2. RECRUIT your teammates • Aim for a team of 10. Use the recruitment templates, create personalized letters, and use Facebook and Twitter buttons to spread the word. • Encourage teammates to ask their friends to join them.  Nothing beats word of mouth. • Tell people your connection to the disease, and share your personal story. 3. RAISE money • Be the first one to hit a team milestone. Encourage your team to aim for $125 each - that way you will all get a T-Shirt on event day! • Talk to your employer or a local business to sponsor your team, or match the funds your team raises. • Encourage people to make their donations online. It’s easier and tax receipts are issued immediately. • Use Facebook and Twitter to help get the team working together! • Start early…send reminders…update messages…congratulate your team on their milestones! 

  5. Fundraising Activities Get creative with your team! There are lots of ways to get together, have fun, and raise funds to hit your team’s goal. Short on Ideas? Try these: • Bake Sale • Movie Night • Raffle or Silent Auction • Yard Sale • Host a Party • Potluck • Poker Tournament • BBQ Lunch I’m hosting an all-you-can-eat pizza party!

Send us a picture of your team hanging out, or post it to Facebook or Twitter – you could win even more!

  7. Team Early Bird Prizes • *To be eligible for prizing, all donations must be received before Father’s Day. Incentive prizes are not cumulmative– one per participant. • *Teams must be comprised of 5 or more members to qualify as a team.

Registering a Safeway Team Here are 5 tips to get your team registered and off to a great start! • Assign one member to be team captain and that person sets up team (avoids doubling up on teams). • Safeway Teams remember to include your store number in team name – example: “Safeway Store #456 – the Superamazings”. • Make sure to download the new off-line pledge form and that everyone on your team is using one per participant. • Here’s a great log sheetif you are collecting cash donations at your station. • Take time to make sure that all the donor’s information is legible and complete otherwise a tax receipt cannot be issued. Help us help them!

  12. Friendship Powered Fundraising Pages Did you know that you can also fundraise over Facebook? • Login to the fathersdaywalk.ca. Under your Fundraising tab, click on “Get Sponsors”. • Under Step 2 (Share with Social Media sites), click the blue “Get Started” button, which will connect your profile to Facebook. You will be prompted to share a link on your timeline.

  13. Friendship Powered Fundraising Pages 3. Click on the link once you’ve posted it, and you will be prompted to add the Friendship Powered Fundraising app. 4. Once you’ve added this app, your friends can begin to sponsor you for the Father’s Day Walk/Run on Facebook! Don’t worry- your fundraising efforts will show up on fathersdaywalk.ca too!

  15. Donation Form “How-To” Each team member should fill out their own form. Fill out team name and captain’s name. If possible, put all donations on a single credit card. Add a check to indicate when cash has been collected.

Important Prostate Cancer Facts to Share • Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict Canadian men. • During his lifetime, one in seven men will be diagnosed with the disease. • It is estimated that 26,500 Canadian men will be diagnosed with the disease in his lifetime. • Over 90% of prostate cancer cases are curable if detected and treated in their earliest stages. • It is a far greater threat for those with a family history of prostate cancer. • Men of African or Caribbean descent are at greater risk. Early detection is key!

Celebrate • Let your team know how much you appreciate their involvement. • Congratulate those ‘stars’ who went the extra mile. • Post photos of your team in action. • Say “Thank You, Thank You, Thank You” … always & often! Thank you for your leadership and dedication to eradicating prostate cancer! You ROCK!
