  2. How to Select the Right AC for Your Home and Office Choosing the right air conditioning unit to cool your home or office is important, in order to stay comfortable throughout the hot months. The first step when choosing airconditioning SA is to figure out how big or small the air conditioner should be, by calculating the load of the home. This refers to the amount of heating and cooling it needs to do in order to make the occupants of the home comfortable.

  3. The load calculation will also include building construction, orientation of the sun, size, placement of rooms and windows, and the types of windows in order to get a true feel of how the air conditioner will cool the home. In an office, it’s also necessary to consider the amount of people, as more people will require more air conditioning from an office aircon. Having the right size system is important for a number of reasons. You may think that the bigger the better, but that’s not the case. A system that is too big will run and turn down the temperature quickly, but it won’t run enough to remove the moisture or humidity from the air, which will make you feel cool but clammy. In order to fix this, many people would then turn down the air conditioner even more, which increases the utility bill.

  4. Since an air conditioner that is too big won’t remove enough moisture from the air, there are sometimes problems with mold growth or other moisture- related damage. When looking at the sizing for air conditioners, note that they are sized in tons, which is a measure of the rate at which they deliver cooling.

  5. It’s not how large the machine is. It’s actually better to have a system that will give a little less than required, rather than a system that provides too much cooling, so you can save money and still feel comfortable. There are also other ratings for domestic aircons to consider. The SEER number is the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and gives you an annual measure of efficiency.

  6. A higher number will use less energy to cool the space. AFUE is the Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency. The higher the number here, the less energy is used. HSPF is the Heating Seasonal Performance Factor and once again those with higher numbers use less energy. Don’t also just use price as a factor. Aircon prices vary, so price shouldn’t be a tool you use to determine the best air conditioner. If you are looking to upgrade the air conditioner in your current space, it’s still important to do a load study in order to see if your current air conditioner was the right size. By choosing the right size home aircon, you can save money. Ducts should also be checked.

  7. You may also consider the type of air conditioner available, depending on the space. In addition to central air conditioners, there are also window units, wall air conditioners, and portable air conditioners. Portable air conditioners can be necessary if it’s hard to do construction. Window air conditioners are often cheaper, but sometimes they have high-energy consumption and don’t cool as well. There are plenty of cheap aircon window units that can provide additional cooling to a space that needs it.

  8. Minisplit air conditioners are a great choice for when you need cooling for a small apartment, or where installing or extending ductwork is not a feasible solution. Household aircon systems are a great choice.

  9. Many people also don’t consider air quality when choosing a new air conditioner and only think about the cooling aspect. Your air conditioner should also work to improve the air quality, so it’s important to choose an air conditioner that will have a good filter and deliver better air to breathe.
