  1. PERSUASIVE ESSAY BLOOPERS! BY: MRS. DeSandre **With special thanks to those of you who are guilty of writing bloopers. Without you, this PowerPoint would not exist.

  2. Find the Fluff • The book is really good and it has lots of things in it.

  3. And the fluff is….. • The book is really good and it has lots of things in it. • What kind of things does it have? • Action, ice cream, tragedy? • Be specific!!

  4. What doesn’t belong here? • This book is for like a girl, not a boy.

  5. And the rejected word is… LIKE This book is for like a girl, not a boy What is like a girl? Is that someone who is almost a girl, but not quite? PLEAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

  6. Find the third grade writing… • Making this book into a movie is bad.

  7. And the third-grade word is… • BAD • Making this book into a movie is bad. • This sounds too simple. Replace it with the following: • A bad idea • Not likely to be profitable • Anything else that sounds 8th grade appropriate.

  8. What isn’t correct? • I think it must of been hard to live that way. • I had to turn spell check off so that it wouldn’t automatically change “must of”. to “must have”. • If the computer did this, you should too!

  9. What’s wrong here? • This is a amazing book.

  10. And the answer is…. • This isn’t a amazing book. • It’s AN amazing book. • We use “an” rather than “a” when the first letter of the next word begins with a vowel.

  11. But I have 3 reasons in my opening paragraph, so what’s wrong here? • Three reasons why this book should be turned into a movie are: it would be a very exciting movie, the movie would be suspenseful, and the movie would keep audiences on the edge of their seats.

  12. And the problem is…… • Three reasons why this book should be turned into a movie are: it would be a very exciting movie, the movie would be suspenseful, and the movie would keep audiences on the edge of their seats. • These are not three reasons why a book should be made into a movie. This is one reason stated three times. Don’t bore your reader. You won’t do well if the person grading your paper is sleeping - zzzzzzzzz-

  13. Finally, what’s inaccurate here? • Mrs. DeSandre is a wonderful, kind, intelligent, and beautiful teacher. Her LA students are lucky to have her.

  14. And the inaccurate information is… • There is nothing wrong with this statement. It is 100% true.

  15. And this is….. THE END
