  2. Introduction Archimedes was born in 287 BC and died in 212 BC. The birth and death of him took place in Syracuse, Sicily. He was a native to his city and country. His friend, Heraclites, wrote a biography about his life, but unfortunately, all of his work was not found. It is also said that he visited Egypt and Alexandria to share results he had in mathematics in personal messages.

  3. Accomplishments He was named after a device called the ‘Archimedes screw’. It is basically a pump used in many parts of the world. Authors say this was made in Egypt. He made the ‘method of exhaustion’ which is a new kind of back in his days. It also helped make important answers. Archimedes made a mathematical that most of us know than his other accomplishments. It is Archimedes Principle. If some of you do not know, it gives weight of the body if it was immersed in liquid.

  4. Accomplishments (cont.) He shows the area, or surface, of a sphere is four times larger than the great circle, one of his mathematical equations. He also shows that the volume of a cylinder is two thirds larger than the sphere you are measuring. Both are from the book, “On the sphere and cylinder.”

  5. Accomplishments (cont.) He met a lot of mathematicians but some were his friends in Egypt. Conon of Samos recommended his abilities and they were both very close friends. At first, Heath had arguments with Archimedes about his results and work, but after making more books, Heath was very impressed by Archimedes abilities in mathematics and was a large amount of Archimedes life.

  7. The Questions I would ask How many close friends did you have? Did a lot of people question on your work? Was your work in mathematics fun or boring? Why?
