  2. Step 1: Identify the problem • Engineers have to be problem solvers. Their focus is to identify a customer’s problem, and then find a solution • Ex. • Gas mileage is to high on an automobile. • Safety issue on seatbelts. *Created by: Jonathan Carracino

  3. Step 2 : Identify Criteria / Constraints • Size, weight and strength requirements ? Etc. • In the industry, engineers must meet selected criteria that the customer selects. • These must be known to complete the design process. *Created by: Jonathan Carracino

  4. Step 3: Refine the design using a prototype or model • After researching how to solve the previous requirements, it is time to make the design in order to test. • Can be computer models, mathematical models, physical models built for destructive testing..etc *Created by: Jonathan Carracino

  5. Step 4:Evaluate the design • After completion of the prototype, it must be tested to see if all the criteria has been meet. • Designers evaluate prototypes very heavily to ensure their final product is engineered without any problems to reduce risk of having problems when the product is sent into the field. *Created by: Jonathan Carracino

  6. Step 5: Develop a product • Constructing a fully functional replica of the final product to display to potential consumers. Must have great aesthetic qualities to ensure craftsmanship and durability. *Created by: Jonathan Carracino

  7. Step 6: Evaluate the final product. • Ensures testing is thorough, and product design has no flaws that conflict with the criteria. • Once testing is completed and no other modifications can be made, the product is ready for production. *Created by: Jonathan Carracino
