  2. Lessons From Gideon • Judges 6:1-10 - God has allowed Israel to be greatly impoverished at the hands of the Midianites because of the evil they had done. • They had turned from God to serve the Gods of the Amorites. • The children of Israel cried out to God for relief from their afflictions.

  3. Lessons From Gideon • Judges 6:11-40 - Gideon was God’s choice to lead Israel and free them from oppression. • selected by God • prepared by God • faith strengthened by God • Judges 7:1-7 - God chose the army of men to fight with Gideon. • Reduced the army from 32,000 men to 300

A Great Thing Happened Judges 7:8-21 - Gideon, with his army of 300 men selected by God, put the oppressors to flight, who were “like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the seaside for multitude.” Judges 7: 22-8:21 – they pursued and conquered the oppressors.

  5. 17 And he said to them, “Look at me and do likewise; watch, and when I come to the edge of the camp you shall do as I do.”

  6. “Great things” can still happen when… • Good men step up and take the lead. • “Look on me, and do likewise… as I do, so shall you do” (7:17) • God still desires and expects leadership. • I Pet. 5:1-4 – examples to the flock • 1 Tim. 3:1-7 – examples in character • 1 Tim. 4:12 – examples in all actions • Eph. 5:23 – husbands in God’s design • Eph. 6:4 – fathers to take lead in developing their children spiritually

  7. “Great things” can still happen when… • Good men step up and take the lead. • Others faithfully follow. Judges 7:17-21 • The soldiers followed Gideon’s example and great things happened as a result. • “And every man stood in his place” (7:21) • What would have happened if they had not?

Judges 7:17-21 • Great things can still happen when each one has enough faith to stand in their place and do what is theirs to do.   9. Conclusion • Judges 6:3-5 - Israel had a need… • For good men to step up and take the lead. • For others to faithfully follow. • Because they faced an adversary who sought to destroy them. • How much more today? 1 Pet. 5:8
