Life • Born Gabrielle Bonheur "Coco" Chanel (19 August 1883 – 10 January 1971) • In 1895, when she was twelve years old, Chanel’s mother died of tuberculosis • 1901 –after six years leaving in a orphanage she moves in a Catholic girls house in Moulins • While living with Balsan, Chanel began designing hats as a diversion • In 1908 Chanel began an affair with one of Balsan's friends, Captain Arthur Edward 'Boy' Capel • He installed Chanel in an apartment in Paris and financed Chanel's first shops and she expanded her business • She died on Sunday, January, 10th 1971 “A war between wars, Victorian Era Vs Postmodernism” by Octavian Radu Chis

Work • She had a job as a seamstress • 1905-1908she sang in a cabaret frequented by cavalry officers • 1908 she open her first shop • Chanel became a licensed modiste (hat maker) in 1910 and opened a boutique at 21 rue Cambon, Paris named Chanel Modes • 1971 Chanel “retire” after working all her life “A war between wars, Victorian Era Vs Postmodernism” by Octavian Radu Chis
