  1. An Update on Drawing and Design Transfer from APS to SLAC Rodd Pope Dean R. Walters

  2. Motivation • Drawings in SLAC archive • http://mdweb.slac.stanford.edu/Doc%20Control.ODA.php • Process of entering drawings into archive

  3. Current Transfer Process • Drawing transfer controlled by • ESD 1.1-320r2 • LCLS Collaboration Drawing Control • Drawings • Released • Drawings need to be sent in PDF format • File names changed from APS to SLAC names • As Built • PDF format, DXF format, and paper copy (all three required) • File names changed from APS to SLAC names • Models • Released • No requirement • As built • STEP or IGES formats

  4. Current Transfer Process • Current Dilemma • SLAC needs design information for facility plans • SLAC uses Solid Edge and getting a 1:1 transfer is not possible • Need to be able to transfer with the least amount of extra handling on the APS side. • A simple method is being proposed that will decrease the APS effort.

  5. Proposed Transfer Process • The change to the process is to get information to SLAC earlier than what is in the current ESD. • Work in progress • Testing has shown that medium sized models using the parasolid format will transfer most of the information. There are problems with certain assembly features that prevent a full transfer. • Scott Doran has written a procedure so that models that need transfer will have these features removed • Released Data • SLAC is looking at getting a seat of Pro/E so that they can use the APS models directly. • SLAC can then determine the best way to transfer the APS Pro/E data into something suitable for Solid Edge • Drawings will go to SLAC in the Pro/E format and SLAC can produce the PDF’s and paper copies • SLAC will also convert the file names from APS to SLAC names.

  6. Conclusions • This proposal needs to be agreed upon at SLAC so that ESD 1.1-320 is revised. • This solutions not only helps the data transfer from APS to SLAC but also LLL. • This proposal keeps the problem of translation on the SLAC side so they have the opportunity to work out a solution with Solid Edge. It has already been determined that some translations work out of Pro/E but not going into SE.
