  1. Writing a research paper! Biology A Mrs. Jarnagan

  2. First things first… • A research paper requires researching a topic. • The sources must be VALID; scientific journals, articles, approved websites. NO WIKIPEDIA. • The information that you find is then taken and PUT INTO YOUR OWN WORDS! • NEVER EVER EVEREVER COPY/PASTE information from your source. This is plagiarism! • Use words you understand; you are summarizing the information in such a way that it makes sense to YOU.  • ALWAYS cite the source that the information came from at the end of the sentence.

  3. So…how…do…I…do…that…???? • The associations of types of fish and fish preparation methods with pancreatic cancer risk remain unknown. No statistically significant associations were observed with fried fish and shellfish consumption. The potential health impact of fish consumption may depend on the types of fish consumed and fish preparation methods. LC-PUFAs, particularly docosahexaenoic acid, and nonfried fish, but not shellfish or fried fish, may be beneficial in the primary prevention of pancreatic cancer. • Ka He, PengchengXun, Theodore M. Brasky, Marilie D. Gammon, June Stevens, and Emily White. 2013. Types of Fish Consumed and Fish Preparation Methods in Relation to Pancreatic Cancer Incidence: The VITAL Cohort Study. Am. J. Epidemiol. 177(2): 152-160. • So… how NOT to summarize: • The potential health impact of fish eaten may depend on the types of fish eaten and fish preparation methods. LC-PUFAs, particularly docosahexaenoic acid, and nonfried fish, may be beneficial in the primary prevention of pancreatic cancer. • How TO summarize: • The connection between the types of fish along with manners in which they are prepared and the occurrence of pancreatic cancer have been examined (He et al 2013). There seems to be no connection between fried fish and shell fish and the occurrence of pancreatic cancer, although there is data that suggests that nonfried fish may actually have positive effects in preventing pancreatic cancer (He et al, 2013).
