  15. 19” ORiNOCO Active EthernetInstallation guidelines • The 12 Port unit can be installed in 19” rack (using the accessory kit metal brackets) or as stand alone device with 4 rubber stickers (included in the kit) • Two adjacent 6 Port units can be installed in 19” rack • Make sure that air flow is not restricted around the unit (min. about 1inch clearence) • The unit does not include an ON/OFF switch - plug the power cord into the unit and only then to your power outlet • The device will turn-on after 2-3 sec. - verify that fans are running • If possible - Verify a complete Power-On-Test cycle, using front panel LEDs. • The device rated current is 1.8A max. (6 port) make sure that your power outlet can ‘hold’ this current level (preferred suitable slow blow fuse)

  16. The device can be powered with full load (all channels connected). Ports will turn on, one by one, minimizing peak currents, spikes & noise. The device includes an internal fuse. Fuse is designed to NOT be replaced by the end-user, but only by authorized personnel. Patch cords from the switch/hub should be connected to the device INPUT connector (LOWER RJ45) Patch cords to Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) should be connected to the device OUTPUT connector (Upper RJ45) Connection between 2 ORiNOCO AE DC Injector output ports, is protected, and both units will not be damaged. Connecting the OUTPUT port into a non power ready device, will NOT damage the NIC nor the ORiNOCO AE DC Injector . Overload LED (Orange) means - Non Power Ready Equipment was detected, or Wires Short Condition. It is advised not to exceed the standard 100 meter channel length from the switch to the DTE (using UTP Cat5 data cable) - Though the ORiNOCO AE DC Injector was tested with 10/100Base-T data rate, using 0 to 140 meter with no errors, under full load conditions. Be aware that front panel LEDs update status rate (response time) can take up to 2-3 sec. It is NOT a failure or a S/W error. It is designed to filter out transients conditions. Remember - The ORiNOCO AE DC Injector is NOT an Ethernet Repeater (!) The installed cable length should be measured from the Switch/Hub to the DTE (including the ORiNOCO AE DC Injector connections) ORiNOCO Active EthernetInstallation guidelines (cont’d)

  17. Unit is plugged to main AC inlet, but main AC LED is “off” ?! Verify the use of a correct & functional AC cable, including good & solid ground connection Verify that the AC inlet is “live” (using a different device) and that voltage is between 100Vac to 264Vac (50Hz to 60Hz) Re-connect the unit to the AC inlet and verify LEDs power up sequence Re-connect the unit to the AC inlet and verify that internal fans are operating (airflow should be out of the case) If both internal fans are working (can be heard or feel the airflow out of the case), a possible internal circuitry fault or internal voltage is out of spec. If fans are not working, a possible internal power supply Unit is plugged and running, but fans are not working ?! Verify that all fans openings in the case are clear of any air blocking materials Verify that the plastic case is not damaged Verify that there are no loose screws inside the power unit (in any case - do not open the unit ) Try to re-connect the power unit into the AC inlet Troubleshooting …

  18. Unit operates but one of the load devices does not work ?! Verify that you are using a standard UTP cat5 cable, including all 8 wires Verify that you are not using a cross-over twisted pair wire Verify that the load device is connected to the power unit OUTPUT port (higher RJ45 connector) Try to move the same load into a different port on the same unit – if it works, there is probably a faulty port or bad RJ45 port connection. If possible, try to connect the load device into a different power unit – if it works, there is probably faulty power unit. Try to power it up again and verify a correct power up LEDs’ sequence. Try to bypass the long twisted pair cable and bring the load close to the power unit and connect to one of the ports using a short cable – if it works, there is probably a faulty connection over the long cable, or one bad RJ45 connection Unit operates & the load device works, but there is no data link?! Verify that the green LED at the power unit front panel is “on” (continuously) Verify that you are using a standard UTP cat5 cable, including all 8 wires Verify that you are not using any cross-over twisted pair wires Verify that the power unit is connected to a switch / hub with a good RJ45 patch cord connection Verify that cable is category 5 or better, and is under 150m length between the switch to the load Try to connect a different device over the same port – if it works and link is established, there is probably a faulty data link in the load. Try to re-connect the load into a different output port and remember to move the input port to the switch / hub accordingly – if it works, there is probably a faulty output or input port in the power unit or a bad RJ45 connection. Troubleshooting …

  19. Unit operates but one of the load devices (Access Points) makes the “overload” LED light ?! Verify that you are not using any cross over cable between the power unit output port to the load device Verify that there is no short over any of the twisted pair cable or over the RJ45 connectors Move the device into a different output port – if it works, there is probably a faulty port or bad RJ45 connection Unplug the device and verify that the “overload” LED turns “off” – if not, there is probably faulty port or internal short in the RJ45 socket Wait for 5 sec to 10 sec while the orange LED is “on” – if it turns to green, there was a charged capacitor in the far end load, which was discharged after plugged in and only than, the device can be detected and activate Unit operates but one of ports is powering a load without turning the “Power Active” LEDs on ?! Move the load into a different output port – if the LED turns “on”, there is a fault in the prev. output port Is it safe to keep the unit running while “overload” LED on ? Yes – Overload LED does not mean that the unit provides high currents or get over heated etc. “overload” conditions means that non-power-ready device was detected or terminals 4/5 and 7/8 are shorted together, such as in legacy 10/100 NIC cards. During “overload” condition, port power is disconnected, and only a single pulse every 5 sec. Is there to sense the line. Troubleshooting …
