    3. Setting Ruthie lived in a small town. She went to a small school and knew all of the students in the fourth grade. Ruthie loved to talk and had many friends. Since Ruthie had a lot of friends she was involved in a lot of activities. No matter where Ruthie went in town, everyone knew her and her family.

    4. Setting In the middle of the school year, Ruthie’s family moved to the big city. Her new school was huge. There were too many children in fourth grade for Ruthie to meet them all. Ruthie felt uncomfortable talking to new people. A lot of the students and teachers thought Ruthie was shy. It was hard for Ruthie to make new friends. She was not involved in activities after school. She was miserable in the big city.
