  4. We all have a curriculum to deliver BUT… • It’s how we do it that makes a difference • The knowledge and skills come from the right experience

  5. Science Success! If you want creative thinkers, problem solvers and independent learners then you must first think about..

  6. Planning & Structure You don’t accidentally find lessons that will.. • Develop thinking skills • Develop problem solving Here is advice from our experience… • Your science teams time and energy has to go into planning • Don’t try to change everything at once • Reflect with your team after doing something new and build from there

  7. Where do you start? • Choose a topic and get creative!

  8. Year 8 ROCKS and FOSSILS! • All Yr 8 classes given introduction to basic content • Each class presented with a challenge to produce a presentation that can be used to teach the rest of the year Examples of presentation titles • Rocks (different types and the rock cycle) • Timeline for the history of the Earth and big events • Volcanoes, Earthquakes and plate tectonics • Species of the UAE (past and present) • The tree of life

  9. 3. Take The TripStudents complete the General Booklet Students complete some research for the challenge 4. Class time and homework to organise themselves and produce their presentations 5. Topic test as normal

  10. Presentation from the Timeline Group After discussion THEY decided THEY wanted to present using Posters Movies Flyers Models PowerPoints Food!

  12. And Finally! Students loved this They had no idea just how hard they had worked! The test results were evidence of successful learning. As confucius said… choose a job you love and you’ll never have to work…
