  3. HUNTER-GATHERERS • People FOUND food by roaming from place to place, hunting, fishing, and gathering wild grains, fruits, and nuts

  4. SETTLING NEAR RIVERS • Rather than roaming, people settled in one place – NEAR WATER • Rivers provide: • Food • Water • Fertile soil • Transportation • Energy

  5. SURROUNDING WATERS(TRADE ROUTES) • Mediterranean Sea • Largest body of water in the region • Red Sea • Between Africa and Arabian Peninsula • Persian Gulf • Between Arabian Peninsula and Iran

  6. OIL RESOURCES • This area is the largest producer of oil in the world

  7. VOCABULARY • Fertile – • Rich in resources and nutrients • Hunter-gatherer – • a person who finds food by hunting, fishing, and gathering wild grains, fruits, and nuts • Irrigation – • the process of bringing water to dry land
