  11. 6th Grade Scheduling Feb 25-28 Mr. Sams @ four elementary campuses Students will bring home a scheduling form. Please talk with your student, select classes, sign, and return to current school by 3/6/19. Middle School Counselors will enter course requests for students.

  12. 7th Grade Scheduling Course selections were presented to students on 2/6/19 and 2/7/19. Students will be entering selected courses with parent signature on 2/21/19 and 2/22/19. Course selection forms are also available for you to take tonight.

  13. 8th Grade Scheduling Course selections were presented to students on 2/4/19 and 2/5/19. Students will be entering selected courses with parent signature on 2/19/19 and 2/20/19. Course selection forms are also available for you to take tonight.

  14. 6th Grade Courses ELA (2 periods) Math Science Social Studies PE/Pre-Athletics (required once during 6th or 7th grade-students may take PE both 6th AND 7th) With PE-One elective or Accelerated MATH- if required due to failing STAAR Without PE- Two electives or one elective and Accelerated MATH- if required due to failing STAAR.

Students will select several alternates due to seat availability. 8th graders are scheduled first, then 7th, then 6th.

  18. COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS This course is designed to guide students through the process of investigation in the development of a college and career readiness achievement plan. Students will use interest inventory software or other tools available, to explore college and career areas of personal interest. Students will use this information to explore educational requirements for various colleges and a variety of chosen career paths. Middle School Speech (Semester Class) Communication is an integral part of our social, cultural, and academiclives. In speech, middle school students will develop effective communicationskills to further their academic pursuits and to prepare for interaction insocial, civic, and professional roles. Competent communicators develop skillsfocused on five identifiable functions of expressing and respondingappropriately to feelings, participating in social traditions, informing,persuading, creating, and imagining.

  19. INVESTIGATING CAREERS The goal of this course is to create a foundation for success in high school, future studies, and careers such as Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics; Business and Industry; Public Service; Arts & Humanities; and Multidisciplinary Studies. The students research labor market information, learn job-seeking skills, and create documents required foremployment. t

  20. Speech Communication is an integral part of our social, cultural, and academic lives. In speech, middle school students will develop effective communication skills to further their academic pursuits and to prepare for interaction insocial, civic, and professional roles. Competent communicators develop skills in expressing and responding appropriately to feelings, participating in social traditions, informing,persuading, creating, and imagining.

  21. 8th Grade Electives Art Band Choir Dance (by audition only) Theater Interpersonal Studies (1 semester) Professional Communications (1 semester) Touch Data Entry (1 semester) All of these are subject to class requests and staffing.   22. Interpersonal Studies Interpersonal Studies examines how the relationships between individuals and among family members significantly affect the quality of life.This course focuses on the student’s development in the areas of family,friends, education, and career. The course includes lessons regarding time management, collaboration and communication, decision making, stressmanagement, and other skills required for success and independence.

  23. Professional Communication For successful participation in professional and social life, students must develop effective communication skills. Students enrolled in Professional Communication will be expected to identify, analyze, develop, and evaluate communication skills needed for professional and social success in interpersonal situations, group interactions, and personal and professional presentations.

  24. Course Options Pre-AP (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies) • rigorous coursework • faster pacing • high expectations • minimum of six weeks is required • parents must attend meeting before students register Pre-Athletics • fundamental skills • high expectations • physically challenging

  25. Athletics (7th and 8th) *Students will be required to try out for two sports. *Students must remain eligible to play (UIL requirement to earn 70 or above in all classes) *High expectations for behavior and sportsmanship *8th grade early morning practice *7th grade after school practice
