  3. Reading • McNamara and Hardy – “Subjective Hierarchies in Spatial Memory” • Ryan – “Immersion vs. Interactivity: Virtual Reality and Literary Theory” • Tversky - “Distortions in Memory for Maps” • Lackner and DiZio – “Spatial Orientation as a Component of Presence:Insights Gained From non-terrestrial environments” • Colle & Reid – “The Room Effect: Metric Spatial Knowledge of Local and Separated Regions”

  4. Reading • Waller, Hunt and Knapp – “The transfer of spatial knowledge in virtual environment training” • Witmer & Kline – “Judging Perceived and Traversed Distance in Virtual Environments” • Chance, Gaunet, Beall, Loomis – “Locomotion mode affects the updating of objects encountered duirng travel” • Ruddle, Payne & Jones – “Navigating Large-Scale “Desktop” Virtual Buildings –Effects of Orientation Aids and Familiarity” • Loomis, Golledge & Klatzky – “Navigation system for the blind – auditory display modes and guidance” • Lampton, Knerr & Goldberg – “Virtual Environment Performance Battery (VEPAB)”

  5. Other Stuff … • Stuff from before Christmas • Written up summary of thesis, making the underlying ideas more explicit • Webified this new summary, and updated web page in general • Updated bibtex file with new readings • Wrote 4th Quarter Progress Report • Designed hons project (must still write it up)

  7. Study Design … • Designed my studies

  8. To Do … • Type up hons project proposal (by 9 Feb) • Organise & type up readings w.r.t. topics, rather than author • Make formal plan for experiments • How to measure stuff • Create dummy tasks • How to get at cognitive map • Decide on 2 equivalent knowledge bases for experiment • Design alternates for comparison for experiments • Get measures ready • Design VE for experiments (if time)
