Back to the chronology • In 1942, Klaus Barbie arrived in Lyon as Gestapo chief • Between 1942 and 1944 several crimes had been committed : déportation, torture … • At the end of the war, Barbie leaved Europe and took refuge in South Africa. • In 1954, hewasjudged for war crime. • In 1970, hehad been found in Perubut he leaved for Bolivia. • In 1983, withSeveralfrauds to extradition processhe has been arrested and expelled to French Guyana wherehe has been arrested and conducted to Lyon. • The Barbie’s trial took place between the 11th may 1987 and the 4th july.

  5. The Prosecution • During th trial the Prosecutionexplained the context, whatrepresent to bejewduringthisperiod. It insisted on the factthat Barbie isactor of the Crime againsthumaintycommitted in Lyon • Severalwitnesses have been testifiedduringthis trial like : • Simone Lagrange (on the left) • Lise Lesèvre (on the right)

The Defense • During the trial, Jacques Vergès and the otherBarbie’slawyertried to demonstratethat crime againsthumanityis a vagueness notion. • Theyalsotried to demonstratethatwitnessestestimonies are unclear. • Theydefended the point of vue in which all on the testimonieswas made to persuade the jury that Barbie werehereduring the crimes.

  8. The Verdict • The 4th July 1987, Barbie had been foundguilty • He wassentenced to life inprinsonment • He died the 25th September 1991 in the Saint Joseph Prison in Lyon

  9. The trial • In our Klaus Barbie’s trial we have four characters : • One lawyer for the Prosecutionplayed by Fanny • Twowitnesses for the Prosecution : Simone Lagrange played by Fanny and Lise Lesèvreplayed by Marion • One barrister for the Defenseplayed by Marion

The trial’s content • First, the judge opens the audience. • Then the prosecutionwillbeginwithtwotestimonies : • Simone Lagrange isgoing to testify first • Then Lise Lesèvregiveshertestimony • To finish its intervention, the Prosecutionpleads • Then , the Defensepleadsalso and exposes its arguments
