  3. The penny is a US coin worth one cent. • Pennies are copper plated zinc and have a smooth edge. • The first Lincoln penny was issued in 1909, the 100th anniversary of Lincoln's birth. This was the first US coin to picture a President.

  4. The nickel is a US coin worth five cents. • Nickels are made out of a nickel/copper alloy. • Nickels have a smooth edge. • The Jefferson nickel has been minted since 1938, when it replaced the Indian Head/Buffalo nickel.

  5. The dime is a US coin worth ten cents. • It is the smallest, thinnest and lightest US coin. • The Roosevelt dime has been minted since 1946, when it replaced the Liberty Head dime.

  6. The quarter is a US coin worth twenty five cents. • Quarters are made out of an alloy of copper and nickel. • The George Washington quarter has been minted since 1932, when it replaced the Liberty quarter.
