Over 780 million people lack can’t get clean water Water for LIFE drills water wells in places around the world that don’t have any clean water Every 20 seconds a child dies from a waterborne illness That means their water is so dirty it has diseases in it

  3. If people don’t have a well, where do they get water?

  5. How far do people walk to get their water? On average they walk over 3.7 miles each way

  6. How far is that?

  7. That’s the same distance as walking around the track 15 timesbefore you get any water!

  8. That’s 55 football fields! or 210 basketball courts!

  10. How much water do they need to carry?

  11. In Africa, a person need about 5 gallons of water each day to live a normal, healthy life. This water is for … • This does not include any water for farming – plants or animals • Drinking/eating • Washing and cooking food • Washing dishes and clothes • Washing hands and bathing

  17. Who carries the water and how long does it take?

  18. Women and young girls carry the water for their whole family. In areas without water, women and young girls spend an average of 6 hours a day collecting water Many girls cannot go to school because they are needed to carry water for their families 6 hours a day! That’s estimated at 200 million hours per day globally

A True Story… One day while on a mission trip, a little boy from the local village asked one of the LIFE team members a question… “Is it true that in America you flush toilets with clean drinking water?” The man was shocked! He had never thought about it that way. This little boy dreamed of having water without mud and disease in it. He just could not imagine a place where they had so much water that people could throw it away! Stories like this are why we continue working; so that every little boy and girl has clean, safe water.
