  1. Welcome to Alhambra H.S. Room J 205 Biological Sciences Classroom / Laboratory • College Preparatory Anatomy & Physiology • Instructor: Ms. Lonergan • *Email: clonergan@martinez.k12.ca.us • *EMAIL is my preferred communication venue • Class room phone: 925.313.0440 ext. 2096

  2. What Will Anatomy Students Learn?Textbook:Essentials of Anatomy & Physiologyby Martini / BartholomewLaboratory Manual:Anatomy & Physiologyby Stephen N. Sarikas PHD Detail and overview of the eleven systems of the human body Integumentary Skeletal Muscular Nervous General/Special Senses Endocrine Cardiovascular System Lymphatic Digestive Urinary System Reproductive Sys.

  3. SEMESTER 1: Ch. 1 -7 Foundational Anatomy & Physiology course work; SEMESTER 2: Ch. 8-19 Dissections during second semester are paramount in learning second semester chapters of study* PARTICIPATION IN DISSECTIONS ARE MANDATORY TO ACHIEVE MAXIMUM LABORATORY GRADE • PACE OF CLASS: ~Two weeks per chapter of study with exceptions to more difficult chapters, (e.g. Ch 4 histology, Ch. 6 Skeletal Sys., Ch. 7 Muscular Sys., Ch. 8 Nervous Sys. We will not cover Ch. 2, 3, 14, 17, & 20 in depth as this material is covered in Biology ‘P’ coursework) • WK 1:INTRO OF CHAPTER. STUDENTS COMPLETE DAILY WORKBOOK PAGES, LECTURE, COMPLETION OFA DRY LAB ACTIVITY (WRITTEN OR COLOR WORK) TO SUPPORT CHAPTER OF STUDY, AS THEY ‘READ TO SUCCEED’ NIGHTLY FOR MINIMUM 15 MINUTES • WK 2:WET LAB-PREP/LECTURE/HW DUE / EXAM

  4. DAILY CLASS EXPECTATIONS:P4 = P5 P1 = be PRESENT P2 = be PREPARED P3 = be PRODUCTIVE P4 = be POLITE P5 = DAILY P4 => P5 ….PASS ANATOMY CLASS *If you notice a P4 written on an assignment or noted on the on-line grades it usually means the student was not prepared, or productive. Absences and tar dies can adversely affect a student’s learning and academic standing.

  5. Laboratories: • Block Days:Students should not miss block days unless absolutely necessary WHY? LABS ARE DIFFICULT TO MAKE-UP, DUE TO MATERIALS (STUDENTS WORK AS TEAMS; DETERIOATION OF MATERIALS OR MATEIRALS NOT AVAILABLE) & Participation is a requirement • All lab work due @ end of period with lab station clean and tidy (points deducted if not left orderly and clean) • Pre-view/Pre-read all lab assignments BEFORE lab day • Students who miss laboratory block days will lose significant participation points for assigned activity/lab. This requirement is designated by the * A – G requirements from the University System

  6. Homework Expectations…… • Pay attentionin class as all due dates are listed on “white board”, ‘chalk board’ or under document camera & also announced by teacher • Late work accepted with significant reduction in points • Read Chapters/labs before lecture/activity • Read / Review each evening for optimum learning of material presented in class or lab • ~ 15 minimum - more time may be required for students who read below grade level • Stay current in all work • Meet with me or schedule a meeting with me immediately after class/school if student was absent due to an excused absence

  7. Grading Policy • Grades on line at AHS website – updated regularly… ~ every two weeks schedule dependent e.g. holidays, etc. • Bookmark the Alhambra H.S. website link; click on staff; click on teachers name; choose correct course and follow instructions • Always refer to date grades were uploaded for most current academic grade • Students choose their passwords • If parent or guardian do not have access to the grades on line due to password issues…just email me as I will GLADLY forward the password to you

  8. Concerns…Confused…Help? • Schedule an appointment with instructor after class/school. Drop – In’s who need extra help: • drop in available most days during lunch, long passing or after school. • Drop-in’s welcome, but not guaranteed. • Students who are reading/reviewing (disciplined) should first meet with teacher to set up an appointment for individual help if they are struggling in the course • If a student is below grade level reading, practice makes perfect • Email address: clonergan@martinez..k12.ca.us.

  9. Equation for success: Student + Teacher+ Parent= Success Please remind your child that they are the major variable in this equation for success Thank you for your support this evening and throughout the academic year. Special Congratulations to Parent’s of Senior students
