  1. THE IMPORTANCE OF THEBUSINESS SESSION

  2. Importance If you want your district’s voice to be heard, the Business Session is where you can have the most impact. Your ISBA staff and lobbyists learn what the issues are and hear your concerns and ideas during the debate. If all districts participate: The final vote will be more representative of the entire association. We are more likely to remain cohesive.
  3. Resolutions Resolutions can be submitted by a trustee, a board, a region, several boards or the Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC) Resolutions will establish ISBA’s legislative platform for the upcoming year. Prior to the Business Session, your Board should discuss the resolutions and determine how they will vote on each one. Resolutions are in effect for two years.
  4. Business session conduct Any trustee may debate a resolution. Testimony is limited to three minutes per person. A trustee can defer their time to someone else to debate the resolution. Debate continues until no one else wishes to speak. The President closes the debate and calls for the vote. Each district receives a specific set number of votes based on their student enrollment.
  5. influence Trustees and ISBA have the ability to be the most influential and effective group in the State. We must stand united in our positions. Legislation is the art of compromise so we must be willing to give a little to get a little. You are elected officials just like your legislators – as such they will listen to your point of view.
  6. ISBA’s GOAL ISBA’s Executive Board set a goal for the organization. The goal is to have at least one trustee from each district represented at the business session. Will you help ISBA meet its goal? Just one trustee  See you in Coeur d’Alene November 6-8!
