  1. Structuring Complementary Electronic and Face-to-Face Learning Dann Sklarew, CTA GEF IW:LEARN

  2. Structured Learning Experience IW:LEARN PCU team has 20+ years combined experience with training in face-to-face and e-learning formats IW:LEARN trained over 370 people since 1998 through evolving hybrid of face-to-face embedded within limited e-learning • Our conclusions: • Electronic is media good for networking, supplements -- but not a surrogate for -- face-to-face training. • For meaningful learning, IW:LEARN mustinvest more in face-to-face interactions.

  3. E-forum After Action Report • What happened? • Why?

  4. Alternative to address learning needs: Return to Hybrid Model • Default use of e-forum for: • Ad hoc peer assists • Networking among projects • Survey demand for face-to-face learning • Announce learning opportunities and info. resources • Emphasize to periodic, demand-driven face-to-face learning + ongoing information sharing • Global IW Conferences • More regional freshwater & marine workshops • Innovation transfer via IW Exp Notes, IW Bridges • Outreach (side events, exhibits) at regional meetings
