  2. What is Khmer? • Khmer is the name of a Kingdom on the Indochina Peninsula, and It’s also the name of the People who live in it.

  3. When was the Kingdom made, and Who ruled it? • It was made around 802, and two rulers were Jayavarman the second, who was a deva-raja, or god king, and it gave him absolute power, and Suryavarman the second, who oversaw the construction of Angkor Wat.

  4. How did being a deva-raja effect the expansion of the Khmer Kingdom, and how did the Kings use that power? • It allowed them to have larger armies, and the kings used it to have even more power over their subjects!

  5. How did the Irrigation system help Khmer’s economy? • They were able to farm three times a year, and they were able to sell all those crops for a ton of money!

  6. What’s Angkor, and what does it show about the Khmer people? • It was the place where first royal city they had was, and it shows they were very profitable, for a while.

  7. What was the purpose of Angkor Wat, and why is it on the Cambodian flag? • It was originally a temple to honor the Hindu god Vishnu, but became the temple of the King who ordered it built. It’s on the Cambodian flag because when Cambodia won its independence, The Khmer joined them.

  8. Why did the citizens of Khmer work on the temple? • I think they did because they thought their King was a god, and they didn’t want to bother him.
