  3. What is regionalism • PTA :Preferential trade arrangement(优惠贸易安排) • FTA: Free trade arrangements(自由贸易区) • Custom Union(关税同盟) • Common Market (共同市场) • Economic Union(经济同盟)

  4. Trends one: rapid growth • According to WTO, there are 330 regional arrangements notified to WTO by July, 2005, in which 206 are reported after Jan. 1995 and 180 are already effective. There are many other regional arrangements under negotiation. All WTO members except Mongolia have been members of at least one regional arrangement. it is estimated that more than half of global trade was within regional arrangements.

  6. Trend three: richer contents • In the past: access of trade in goods, • Now: trade in services, economic cooperation, • Selective: investment measure, IPR, competition policy, etc.
