  1. Program Overview The Green Energy and Green Economy Act (Backgrounder) The Feed-In Tariff Program Exporting power to the grid Design & Components Bethany’s Solar Experience

  2. Green Energy and Green Economy Act • Passed in May 2009 • It’s Goals Are: • Encourage Renewable Energy Production • Solar Photovoltaic (PV) • Wind • Waterpower • Bioenergy • Conservation • Create Jobs

  3. Ontario’s goal is to phase out coal fired electricity generation by 2014. Decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 6% from 1990 (Ministry of the Environment, 2009). Looking at what the plan is for Ontario’s energy supply

  4. Green Energy Act and Green Economy Act Continued • Let’s take a look at what the plan is for Ontario Energy Supply 2005 electricity generation distribution by source in Ontario (1) 2014 projection of electricity generation distribution by source in Ontario based on achieving the goals of the Green Energy Act. (2) References 1. “Ontario Electricity Supply, 2005” Ontario Ministry of Energy, 2005. 2. “Ontario’s Renewable Feed-In Tariff Program.” Jason Chee-Aloy, Director, Generation Procurement, Ontario Power Authority, 2009.

  5. Bethany’s Solar Project is Part of this Initiative

  6. What is a Feed-In Tariff • A Feed-In Tariff is an amount of money paid to a producer of electricity by measured kilowatt hours. • The amount of the Feed-In Tariff depends on size the of the project (FIT or microFIT) • How does it work? • Ontario Power Authority (OPA) launched the FIT and microFIT programs. • Participants will receive sufficient revenue which will pay off their investment and generate a significant ROI.

  7. MicroFIT Prices VS FIT Prices

  8. SellYour Solar Energy to the Grid. How does it work? Load Customer’s Meter Generation Meter Electricity Distribution Grid (Where your electricity comes from) $0.802 kWh For 20 Years!

  9. OPA Generation Contracts • MicroFIT contract: • 20 year contract with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA). • No cost for application and contract acceptance. • Connection agreement with your Local Distribution Company (LDC). • Rate of $0.802 is guaranteed for 20 years. • Contracts are transferrable. • Cheques will come from Horizon Energy.

  10. How Secure is Bethany’s 20 Year Contract? • Our reimbursement is set at $0.802 /kWh regardless of any announced decrease in the Feed-in Tariff for new microFIT projects. • Renewable Energy is one of the cornerstones of Ontario energy policy. • 13 pieces of legislation were changed to accommodate the vision of the Green Energy Act. • Bethany will be one of thousands of renewable energy generators. • 3700 projects already approved, 8,500-13,000 more are awaiting approval (OPA). • The Ontario Government knows it needs stability and predictability to encourage investment in energy generation.

  11. PV Array Design: 55 panels Approx 150 feet across front of building

  12. Set back from edge of building, raised 1 foot

  13. Array is thru bolted to ceiling truss, engineered to hold weight off roof membrane and sealed to prevent water intrusion.

  14. Warranties Power Production Warranty: 25 Years Inverter Warranty: 15 years

  15. Made in Ontario • Panels- Manufactured in Ontario • Racking- Made in Ontario • Inverter- Enphase has established a manufacturing plant in Ontario • Installation By IES and volunteers • Electrical Components-Sourced in Ontario
