    4. Benefits of clinical practice highly meaningful work privilege of knowing people; their hopes, dreams, vulnerabilities personally challenging (both an art & a science)

    5. Masters level licensing options LCSW (licensed clinical social worker) LPC (licensed professional counselor) LMFT/CMFT (licensed/certified marriage & family therapist) CAC (certified addictions counselor) RN, CS (certified specialist in psychiatric nursing)

Benefits of masters level practice can do everything a doctoral level psychologist can do except testing education is shorter, less expensive, less competitive, less research focused practice at a masters level allows for accumulation of experience and financial resources to prepare for doctoral study

    7. Disadvantages of masters level practice cannot legally use title “psychologist” less opportunities for teaching or administration insurance reimbursement may be lower less psychotherapy training

    8. Doctoral level practice degrees: clinical, counseling, school, health, and community psychology may be Ph.D., Ed.D., Psy.D. requires completion of a dissertation or major research project requires internship & postdoctoral training

    9. Benefits of doctoral level practice can become a licensed psychologist and do psychological testing can integrate teaching and research with practice wide variety of roles and opportunities

    10. Disadvantages of doctoral level practice education is lengthy (5-7 years post-baccalaureate), expensive, difficult, competitive programs vary widely in their clinical focus dissertation requirement

    11. Clinical vs. counseling psychology clinical- focuses on treatment and research with mental disorders; training is in hospital and clinic settings with mentally ill individuals counseling- oriented toward healthier populations; more training in schools and colleges; otherwise very similar
