The local context • £1.4 billion to spend on healthcare • £84 million debt now paid off • Major re-organisation 8 PCTs to 2 PCTs with a single management team • Reconfiguration of health services through Delivering Quality Health services for Hertfordshire (DQHH) • Commitment to children’s services in PCTs with identified leads and teams

Working in partnership • Partner of the Children’s Trust Partnership and Safeguarding Children’s Board • ‘Being Healthy’ lead for partnership which covers • CAMHS • Children with a disability • Transition • Healthy weight • Special Educational Needs (SEN) inclusion • All of these areas embedded in the Children and Young People Plan.

Opportunities for the future - CAMHS • Children’s Trust now commissions CAMHS services • Emotional health and well-being strategy being developed • Significant investment in 2008/09 to respond to JAR findings • Funding of resilience programme in Hemel secured • ‘Feeling good’ week extended to more children 40,000 children in 2008 involved

Opportunities for the future – disabled children • Aiming High for Disabled Children will see increased focus on this group • Requires NHS to improve services • Partner in developing improvement plan for 2008/09 • Additional investment on physio and OT for special schools • Joint work with CSF on OT services in place

  6. Opportunities for the future – transition • Involved in the development of the new transition team • Involved in planning transition especially children out of county

  7. Opportunities for the future – healthy weight • Thank you for your support in the childhood measurement programme • National priority supported by East of England commitment • Cross agency solution required • Reception children in West Herts 25% are overweight and obese compared with 22.9% nationally • Year 6 children in Herts 27% are overweight and obese compared to 31.6% nationally.
