  2. Nickname, region in the U.S, capital city, major cities, and population • New Hampshire’s nickname is The Granite State • It is in the North East region • Its capital city is Concord • Some major cities are Keene, Rochester, and Plymouth • The population is 1,320,718 people

  3. State Flag, State Bird, and State Tree • State bird: Purple Finch • State flower: Purple Lilac • State tree: White Birch

  4. Current governor and state senator • Maggie Hassan (Democratic) • Kelly Ayotte (Republican) • Jeanne Shaheen (Democratic)

  5. Borders and Geography • The borders are the Atlantic Ocean, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, Canada • New Hampshire's geography is mountainous, glaciers, valleys , rivers, trees lakes, rocks, sandy beaches.

  6. Natural resources and agriculture • Granite, soil, lumber, paper, rivers, coal, oils, and nuclear energy • Before the 1800’s agriculture was the main way to make a living. The soil was important with generally acidic and filled with stones and acid.

  9. Additional facts and information • Daniel Webster is New Hampshire's most Famous son. He was born in 1782 in Salisbury and graduated from Dartmouth college • On June 15 New Hampshire lawmakers adopted the New Hampshire Declaration of Independence. It was one of the 13 colonies in January of 1776 • Mixed trees including maples, beeches, birches, oaks, ashes, and hickories, account for about one third of the state’s forest cover • Canals were built and used for a few years as waterways, but after 1850, railroads became important means of transportation • In May 1775, the provincial Congress of New Hampshire had set up a revolutionary government • Native animals include opossums, moles, shrews, bats, porcupines, raccoons, muskrats, weasels, minks, skunks, chipmunks, foxes, squirrels, and rabbits
