  2. Why this Work Matters Migration of people—driven by economic, social, political and environmental factors—is taking place around the world. Millions are currently in transit, in refugee camps, in detention centers, or living and working in places without full legal status and without access to social services or protection of civil rights. • The inherent worth and dignity of every person; • Justice, equity and compassion in human relations; • The goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all; • Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

  3. History • Began in fall 2009 as informal "Immigrant Issues Planning Group" • Approved as formal task force of Social Justice Council June 2010 • Model • Take leadership from those most affected • Partnerships with local immigrant advocacy groups • Partnerships with other FP committees and faith organizations

A Look Ahead • TRUST Act campaign (handout) • Proposed MA legislation to limit the effects of “Secure Communities” program • Improve community safety and protect community relations • UUA 6-week immigration curriculum (July/August) • Continue work with Centro Presente, BNSM, UU Mass Action, and other partners
