  26. RULE 10.4 LIBERO REPLACEMENT ARTICLE 1.. Procedures for libero replacement a. The libero designated on the lineup for that set is allowed to replace any player in a back-row position. The libero may serve in one position in the serve order. • The libero may only be replaced by the player whom he/she replaced. • One libero replacement may be exercised per dead ball/rally unless the libero is replacing the player in the right back position and will serve the next rally.

  27. RULE 10.4 LIBERO REPLACMENT ARTICLE 1 (Continued) • Libero replacements do not count as substitutions and are unlimited. • A libero replacement must take place between the attack line and the end-line in front of that team’s bench. • A libero replacement must be completed during a dead ball prior to the whistle and signal for serve.

  29. RULE 10.4.3 LIBERO REDESIGNATIONS AND DISQUALIFICATIONS

  30. RULE 10.4.3.a. INJURY SUBSTITUTION If the libero is injured and cannot continue play, he/she must first be replaced by the player whom he/she replaced . A new libero may then be redesignated using the following criteria:

  31. Rule 10.4.4.a LIBERO REDESIGNATIONS • Redesignation does not need to occur immediately after the injury and replacement, but may occur at the discretion of the coach(es). • Any substitute may be designated as libero for the injured libero. The injured libero may not play in the remainder of that set. • The player redesignated as the libero must wear a libero uniform and must remain the libero for the remainder of the game. The redesignated libero’s uniform must have a unique number (not worn by any teammate).

  32. INJURED LIBERO REDESIGNATION • The designated libero # 2 gets injured. • The player she replaced, # 12 comes back in. • The new libero jersey is # 99, no other player has. this number and it is not on the roster. • The coach wants # 51 to be the new libero. • # 51 can go to the locker room and put on the # 99 libero jersey, return to the court, have her new number added to the roster and then enter the match. • Because this is an injured libero replacement, # 51 can wear a libero jersey with a # different from her regular jersey #, with no penalty.

  33. INJURED LIBERO CLARIFICATIONS • If a team has only 1 libero jersey, it IS NOTlegal for different players to use that same jersey with the same number from set to set. • Again, if a team has only 1 libero jersey, and the libero gets injured, it IS NOTlegal for the libero to swap jerseys with another player so she can be the new libero. • That team would have to play without a libero unless they can get another libero jersey.

  34. RULE 10.4.3.b.EXCEPTIONAL SUBSTITUTION The libero may be used as an exceptional substitution for another injured player if no other possible substitute exists. When no longer playing as a libero, that player must wear the same uniform as the teammates and the team continues play with no libero.

  35. RULE 10.4.3.c.DISQUALIFICATION SUBSTITUTION The libero may NOT be used as a substitute for an expelled or disqualified teammate.

  36. Rule 10.4.3.d. LIBERO DISQUALIFICATION If the libero is disqualified while playing, he/she must be replaced by the player whom he/she replaced. The team continues play with no libero player.

  37. RULE 10.4.4A LIBERO REPLACEMENT IS ILLEGAL WHEN • The libero or the replacement is in the set without following the required replacement procedure. (She goes in during a TO). • The libero or replacement is not listed on the roster. • A libero other than the libero designated on the lineup for that set replaces a player on the floor. (A team has # 15 listed as the libero and # 33 in a libero jersey tries to enter the set).

  38. PENALTY FOR ILLEGAL LIBERO REPLACEMENTS RULE 10.4 PENALTIES • Unnecessary delay is charged to the offending team when an illegal libero replacement takes place prior to the whistle/signal for serve. If identified after whistle/signal for serve, illegal alignment results (loss of rally/point). In all cases, the illegal libero must enter legally or be replaced by a legal player. • For the serving team, any points known to have been scored during a term of service in which an illegal libero is discovered in the game, shall be cancelled.

  39. PPENALTY FOR ILLEGAL LIBERO REPLACEMENTSRULE 10.4 PENALTIES 3. For the receiving team prior to the contact of the serve by the opposing team, all points earned during the previous term of service by the violating team while the illegal libero was in the game, shall be cancelled. 4. After the serve has alternated and the first serve is contacted, there shall be no cancellation of points.

  40. PENALTY FOR ILLEGAL LIBERO REPLACEMENTS RULE 10.4 PENALTIES • Uneccesary delay is charged to the offending team when an illegal libero replacement takes place prior to the whistle/signal for serve. • Illegal Alignment is charged to the offending team when an illegal libero replacement takes place after the whistle/signal for serve. • In all cases, the illegal libero must enter legally or be replaced by a legal player.

  41. RULE 10.4.5 LIBERO SERVING • The libero will be allowed to serve in one position in the service order. (Position I – VI) b. When serving, the libero would not be required to leave the playing area or be out of the set for one rally/dead ball before replacing the incoming player in the right back position. This is called the double replacement.

  45. LIBERO TRACKING HELPFUL HINT • There are usually 2 lines or positions between the 2 positions where a Libero comes in, these players are opposites. • This could be different but it is not very often. • This is the most common replacement procedure for a Libero to keep them in the game the most time.

  47. THELIBEROTRACKER (LT)No longer the assistant scorekeeper, changed in 2008.

  48. THE LIBERO TRACKER • An individual other than the scorekeeper should be provided to track the libero replacements, this could be the timer if a 3rd person is not available. • Their first duty is to ensure that once the libero is replaced, at least one rally (live ball & dead ball) takes place before the libero replaces another player. The LT SHOULD NOT mark 2 “L’s” on the LT sheet at the same time, w/o a live ball in between.

  49. LIBERO TRACKER • Their second duty is to ensure that, when leaving the court, the libero is replaced by the same player that she replaced when she entered the game. • The same number SHOULD BE on both sides of the “L” on the libero tracker sheet. • If not, the LT should tell the clock operator to hit the horn or notify the R2. • Can the Libero come in for more than 2 players ? • YES, it is possible, but you don’t see it very often.

  50. The Libero can replace any back row player (LB, CB, RB). Net Net 22 10 14 4 8 36 26c LB CB RB
