  2. Our Mission Together • You can help us achieve our mission: • To prevent homelessness & hunger in our local area • To provide humanitarian aid to individuals and families in need living in Northern Virginia • To serve people of all faiths and ethnicities You Can Make a Difference

What Makes FAITH Unique? • Timely assistance • Extensive casework • 2-hour average initial interview with each client • Home visits • Individualized, holistic, and culturally appropriate • Caseworker and client establish goals and a case plan • Clients connected to a range of resources • Clients receive budget counseling • Client progress evaluated at regular intervals • FAITH moves clients to maximum self-sufficiency for their situation

Emergency Program • FAITH helps people avoid homelessness by providing timely assistance with rent, utilities, and other major expenses • FAITH “bridges the gap” when people need immediate, short-term help • Emergency assistance is 1-time, once a year • 133 families helped in 2008 • 346 children helped • $53,303.30 distributed in 2008

  5. Self-Sufficiency Program • FAITH • identifies clients who can succeed in this program • assesses client’s situation, challenges and resources • meets immediate needs for food and shelter • connects clients to resources and counseling • assists clients in finding and keeping jobs

  6. Self-Sufficiency • FAITH is piloting other self-sufficiency programs to help needy people become independent • Home-based jobs • Cottage industries • Small loans

  7. Shelter Program • FAITH has 2 shelter apartments: • 1 shelter for self-sufficiency • 1 shelter for victims of domestic violence • Clients are safely housed at the shelter apartment for about 2 months as they wait for longer term housing Photo from google images

  8. Food Pantry • The FAITH Food Pantry provides groceries (like rice, oil, and beans), zabiha meat, baked goods, cooked food, grocery coupons, and hygiene products to those in need

  9. Car Donations • FAITH accepts car donations • People who can’t afford to buy a car have a much harder time getting and keeping a job • Needy clients with a car can secure work and become self-sufficient Photo from google images

  10. Ramadan Programs • Iftar • clients receive coupons for halal stores so they can buy food for iftar • Fitrana • FAITH collects and distributes zakat al fitr to needy families • Herndon Without Hunger • distributes food to needy neighbors in Herndon Photos from google images

Herndon Without Hunger • FAITH is committed to ending hunger in America, one neighborhood at a time • During Ramadan, FAITH distributes groceries to anyone in need, no questions asked • In September 2008, FAITH distributed $8,502.93 of food to hundreds of needy families • 2009 will be FAITH’s 5th straight year running Herndon Without Hunger

Eid ul Adha • Last Eid ul Adha, FAITH distributed 1,400 lbs. of udhiya/qurbani meat • About 140 families served • On the 2nd and 3rd days of Eid, volunteers personally delivered over 610 lbs of meat to needy families at home • With these home visits, the poor felt the joy & love of Eid Photo from google images

  14. FAITH Thrift Store • Sells donated clothing, household items, books, electronics and other goods at very low prices • Proceeds benefit poor & needy families • FAITH provides area shelters with free coupons for their clients

Safe & Peaceful Families Program • Provides direct services to the victims of domestic violence (DV) and their children • Serves 40 to 50 DV clients a year • The first and only DV program in Herndon • Fairfax County cites FAITH as one of its “promising practices” DV organizations • Works collaboratively with many area organizations and agencies • FAITH conducts ground-breaking research and programs related to Islam, Muslims, and domestic violence

Safe & Peaceful Families Community Outreach • FAITH participated in the January 19, 2009 National Day of Service called for by President Obama: • conducted screenings of a DVD about domestic violence and its effects on children • distributed fact sheets on DV in Spanish/English at the local grocery store • exposed over 100 people to the DVD, flyers, and facts about domestic violence

FAITH serves 44 orphans All the orphans live with their widowed mothers or other family caretaker Orphans, widows, and community volunteers socialize 3 to 4 times a year in a family atmosphere Financial, spiritual, academic, mentoring and social support Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) said: “I and the person who looks after the orphan and provides for him will be in Paradise like this,” and he placed his index and middle fingers together.   19. Your Donation to FAITH • FAITH’s overhead expenses are already covered by other donor grants which means… • 100% of your sadaqa goes directly to serving the poor & needy in our community

  20. Your Donation to FAITH • Your donation is tax-deductible • Yes, FAITH accepts your zakat • FAITH consults with Imam Mohamed Magid (ADAMS, ISNA) and Dr. Jamal Barzinji (IIIT) on the distribution of zakat
