Area Of Interaction: Environment Learner Profile: Inquirer, Communicators Essential Question: How do we describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasmas states? Standard: Students will examine the scientific view of the nature of matter. Learning Target: Today I will be learning about the differences between physical and chemical properties. Classifying matter is important because we are able to predict behavior and properties based on the material’s characteristics. Homework: Update IAN notebook

  7. What kind of changes does matter undergo? All matter, regardless of state, undergoes physical and chemical changes.

  9. A physical property of matter is one that can be observed or measured without changing the matters identity. What is a physical property?

  10. Rate at which a substance transfers heat. • Ex. Aluminum is a good conductor of heat, that is why pots and pans are made from it. Thermal Conductivity

  11. State is the physical form in which the substance exist. • There are three states of matter. • Name them. State

  12. Density is the mass per unit volume of a substance (that a mouth full). • It is, essentially, a measurement of how tightly matter is crammed together. • Remember I Density • D= Mass/Volume Density

  13. The ability of a substance to dissolve in another substance. • Ex. Kool-Aid dissolves in water Solubility

  14. The ability of a substance to be pulled into a thin wire. Ductility

  15. The ability of a substance to be rolled or pounded thin. Malleability

  16. The point at which a solid changes state and becomes a liquid. Melting Point

  17. The point at which a liquid boils and changes state to a gas. Boiling Point
