  2. Base Cabinets • Base cabinets are the bottom cabinets. • 24” deep and 36” tall, including the counter top. • Widths range from 15” – 48” • Space requirement is a minimum of 10 feet.

  6. Counter Materials • Marble • Used for candy and pastry making • Pros: waterproof; heatproof; beautiful. Cons: expensive; porous; stains easily unless professionally sealed

  7. Counter Materials • Tile • Durable • Easy to clean • Wide range of colors and prices • Uneven surface • Grout stains • Tiles can chip

  8. Counter Materials • Concrete • Can have the look, texture, and feel of quarried stone such as marble, granite, and limestone. • Needs to be sealed • Can chip, crack or flake. • Can form to any shape

  9. Counter Materials • Soap Stone • Non porous • Does not stain • Does scratch • Heatproof • Apply mineral oil to darken the color

  10. Wall Cabinets • 13 “ deep and 30”- 36” tall • Widths range from 15” – 48” • Space requirements- minimum of 10 linear feet • 18” between the top of the base cabinet and the beginning of the wall cabinet. • 15” between the top of a range and the bottom of a microwave.

  11. Soffit • The space between the ceiling and the top of the cabinet. Do you want a short wall, cabinets that go to the ceiling or space to decorate on top of the cabinets?

  12. Islands • The average depth of an island is 30”. • This island is wider to accommodate a seating area on one side.

  13. Dishwashers • A dishwasher is usually 24” wide and is located close to the sink because the plumbing is already there.

  14. Dishwasher Drawers Dishwasher drawers allow you to wash mini loads in a smaller space.

  15. Range Hoods • A range hood allows smoke and fumes to escape from the kitchen. A canopy style is on top of the range and some microwaves have a range hood built into it.

  16. Down Draft Range Hood • A downdraft range hood moves up and down and allows you to ventilate fumes without having a hood hanging down in the kitchen.
