  1. Simplifying Variable Expressions 2.3

  2. Term • A number or the product or a number and variable(s)

  3. Constant • Is a term with no variable

  4. Coefficient • Is a number that is multiplied by a variable

  5. To List the terms, constants and coefficients • KFC • Put a 1 in front of variables that don’t have a number in front of them

  6. List the terms, constants, and coefficients: 7x +y -2xy -7

  7. Name the coefficients the like terms and the constants of : • 6 +2s +4s • -4x • 9m +2r -2m +r

  8. Like Terms • Same variable • Same exponent on variable

  9. Collect Like Terms • KFC • Put a 1 in front of variables with no coefficients • Add the coefficients of like terms

  10. Different methods of showing work for collecting like terms: • Color coding Ex: 9 +4f +3 +2f • Shapes EX: 4f -2f +3 • Distributive Property Ex: 3b-b

  11. EX: Simplify 6y +4m -7y+m

  12. Ex: 4x +3-2(5+x)

  13. Homework TB Pg 76 (11-36) all
