  1. ADVANCED GROUP: Wiki task Mission: to develop part of the staff Ultranet site and to develop a wiki that has an ICT Tips and Hints section that staff can access.

  2. USING WIKIS FOR COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS

  3. FAST FACTS ON WIKIS • A wiki is a community-based collaborative website which can directly edited by anyone with access to it. • Wiki is the Hawaiian word for quick • The first one was called the wikiwikiweb in 1995 • Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia, is probably the most well known wiki (established in 2001 by James Wale).

  4. WIKIS ARE FOR YOU IF YOU WANT… • A place to centrally store your project resources • A place for your community to share information • The ability to collaborate • A ‘net-based’ system (in the cloud) that can be accessed anytime and anywhere internet is available • The ability to track page revision history and restrict access

  5. WIKISPACES • Wikispaces and wetpaint are programmes that can provide those features • Take a look at some popular educational wikis: • http://comparinghemispheres.wikispaces.com/ • http://greetingsfromtheworld.wikispaces.com/ • http://metasaga.wikispaces.com/ • http://9manathan.wikispaces.com/ The last wiki listed is the for my current Year 9 Mathematics class.

  6. Our turn to dive in and have a go! • Wikispaces is simple to use. I have created a ‘sandpit’ so we can have a play  http://freybergsandpit.wikispaces.com/

  7. ICT tips and hints • How should be split up our pages on the Wiki? • Who will work on each page? • What information should be included? • We can check out a couple of websites for ideas see our sandpit http://freybergsandpit.wikispaces.com/Free+Open+Source+Tools
