  1. Repealing the Stamp Act In Boston, members of the Massachusetts legislature called for a Stamp Act Congress. In October 1765, delegates from nine colonies met in New York. They issued a declaration that the Stamp Act was a violation of their right and liberties. Pressure on Parliament to repeal, or do away with, the Stamp Act grew. A group of London merchants complained that their trade suffered from the colonial boycott. Parliament repealed the Stamp Act.

  2. Repealing the Townshend Acts In June 1767 Parliament passed the Townshend Acts which placed duties or fines on glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. To enforce the Townshend Act, British officials used writs of assistance. The writs of assistance allowed tax collectors to search for smuggled goods. The colonists decided to boycott many British goods in protest of the Townshend Acts. Parliament repealed the Townshend Act later except the tax on tea. The British Parliament did not want to look weak in response to the colonial boycotts so they decided to repeal the fines on glass, lead, paints, paper but kept the fines on tea.
