  2. What is FCPE? Non-partisan political action fund for candidates who support public education.

  3. Politics in Ohio • SB5 • HB 153 - Evaluation, Value-Added, Funding • SB 316 - Merit Pay, District Ratings, 3rd grade reading, Evaluations, Charter Schools, Teacher Retesting, Seniority, Vouchers • Cleveland Plan • Public Pension

A sign of times to come? 2/3 no contract As contracts expire they are being replaced with a handbook created by school boards. • Pay decrease of $4,000-$5,000 (HC and pensions) • Longer school days • Reduced sick days • Elimination of sick leave bank • Reduced Prep time • Additional duties w/o stipends • Dress Code

  6. Good News (for Ohio) • We Are Ohio was formed • SB5 was crushed • 10 educators running for office • Voters First • More people are paying attention • More people are getting involved

  7. We Believe: • Teachers and Support Staff are committed to the success of every child. • Students need to be at the center of education reform.

  8. To Ensure the Success of Every Student: • Educators, students, parents, AND POLITICIANS need to be held accountable.

  9. To Ensure the Success of Every Student: • We need funding for: • smaller class sizes • professional development • related arts classes • prep time • reliable evaluations • higher salaries • safe and supportive learning environments

  10. FCPE is not about political parties, it’s about ISSUES. If you care about: Retirement Class Size Salary Standardized Tests Common Core Evaluations Value-Added Working conditions Voice Then you must care about FCPE

  12. Question: What is the Union doing about X? Answer: We are being proactive. We are raising money and educating our members about the importance of elections. Once unfriendly candidates get into office it’s too late.
