  1. Report from the AMS-COMPASS-NA62-IT Coordination meeting 10-02-2014 R. Fantechi

  2. First coordination meeting • Called by X. Espinal (IT) • Attended on NA62 side by Augusto, Tonino and myself • Regular meetings every 2nd Monday of the month • Forum to address: • Problems on experiment side • Communications from IT • Requests to IT • Technical details, etc

  3. IT communications • Basic constraints for 2014 • Scientific Linux, Red Hat and CentOSannounced they are joining forces. This affects future releases of SL. To follow the development of this issue, join linux-users e-group.  It is mainly related on the packaging of the base to build SLC. No effect on SLC5 and 6. • Techlab, project aiming at improving the efficiency of the computing architecture and making better use of the processors available today. It makes available, on a best effort basis, some hardware combinations for evaluation https://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=297154 • VoBox, goal of turning off Quattor on 31st October 2014. Migrate to puppet.     • UIDs>64k started 10th February. No problems detected except in LynxOS and PVS

  4. NA62 issues • To be discussed and prepared for the next meeting • Fate of the NA48 VO. Eliminate/migrate/etc.? • Checkup of all the production accounts • Definition of EOS and CASTOR requirements for 2014 and beyond • EOS is a disk-only, many-replica system targeted to analysis • CASTOR will stay in place limited mainly to CDR • Proposal to merge NA48 and NA62 disk pools • Commissioning of the CDR data link from the experiment to IT • Reminder: 10 Gb link from NA62 to GPN, using 10 Gb GPN infrastructure

  5. Discussion on the storage • Tonino raised some points about EOS vs CASTOR • Possibility to access Castor pool from EOS in specific cases • IT doesn’t recommend it • However there is the need of a better definition of the workload and of real-life measurements • It has been agreed that a period of tests and measurements with fake data before the run should be done
