  1. ATLAS Meta-data WorkshopDay-2 ATLAS Meta-data workshop goals • discuss data workflow and meta-data • provide experience on handling Meta-Data after the first run of data period We have not seen a critical analysis of the approach (what worked and what did not, performance, problems, …) ATLAS Task Force document (2006) : • The document provides a description of the metadata, which are needed to characterize ATLAS event data at different levels, their origin and destination (Conditions D.B, DDM, Metadata D.B) ProdDB, AKTR, AGIS, Tier0 Panda not mentioned. Does it give the overview of the current complexity ? Does a guiding architecture overview document exists? ATLAS meta-data Workshop

  2. ATLAS Meta-data WorkshopDay-2 From the task force document Means to navigate between these ‘granularities’ of scale will be needed to support queries where the user indicates a requirement on a given granularity but where the data needed is stored in a different granularity, e.g. ‘Give me the luminosity for those runs where all of the detector elements are marked as good that went into Stream A. What are these tools? Who developed them and are they documented? J-J.Blaising, 30 August 2010 ATLAS meta-data Workshop ATLAS meta-data Workshop 2

  3. ATLAS Meta-data WorkshopDay-2 ATLAS Task Force document (2006) : • During data analysis, the main task of the Metadata is to provide a list of datasets which fulfils certain conditions (sub-detector status,...) and the associated luminosity. Two use cases are presented in this document; they are rather of production type. • Two use case only are presented in the document (calibration and cross section measurement & inaccessible data analysis file) Findings: They don’t define the requirements for a complex end-user analysis. The document doesn’t discuss how Meta-data are accessed for queries and browsing. Is there a more detailed document discussing these requirements as well as the access methods? ATLAS meta-data Workshop

  4. ATLAS Meta-data WorkshopDay-2 The Data Preparation Group was created end 2006 Are the D.P Meta-Data documented in T.F document? ATLAS Meta-Data Coordinator appointment; end 2009 : What is the mandate (task & authorities) of the Coordinator ? What is the process in place which allows groups, end-users to: • Submit request for new Meta-data (structure, origin, destination) • Implement them and preserve the overall coherence • Update the query and browsing tools ATLAS meta-data Workshop

  5. ATLAS meta-data Workshop

  6. ATLAS Meta-data WorkshopDay-2: Facts, Questions Yesterday’s presentation Request: everything related to a sample should be available in AMI Groups still use Twiki pages: Why? The user interface is somewhat technical Information organized according to production not physics analysis Input from physics users needed to improve design for contextual searches.
