Liverpool’s Housing Strategy 2009-11 • What are the City’s housing priorities? • Restructuring the housing market and improving choice • Supporting economic growth • Balance of tenure and property types • Improving the quality of housing • Ensure good use of property and reduce empty homes • Meet the needs of a diverse community

What has been achieved? • Reduction in overall vacancy rates to 5.8% of total housing stock • Increase in owner occupation • Regeneration work in Norris Green • Reduction in number of non decent homes • Healthy Homes Initiative recognised as an example of good practice • Reduction in overcrowding • Equality in Housing Group established

What about Equalities? • Targeting of energy efficiency measures for elderly and disabled people • Addressing health inequalities through the Healthy Homes Initiative • Development of a Home Improvement Agency to support elderly/disabled homeowners • DFG protocol with RSLs • Research into customer satisfaction levels of BRM communities • Appropriate provision for Gypsies and Travellers • Establish Equalities in Housing Working Group

What are the Emerging Priorities? • Neighbourhood solutions involving community and agencies • Taking actions that improve the quality of life • Re-determine growth/renewal priorities in inner core and outer areas • Encourage investment in new build private rented sector • Bringing empty properties back into use

  9. Emerging Priorities (contd) • Sharing of data and intelligence with other agencies e.g. RSLs, the Health Service, Fire and Rescue • Attract further investment for Healthy Homes Initiative • Continue commitment to housing growth • Develop new forms of investment
