  1. Dissolving By Olivia Belcher

  2. In this Homework I will be showing you my experiment and how I found out if the following powders dissolved in cold water and hot water, I hope you enjoy it.

  3. The things I will keep the same and what I will change

  4. I’ll be using: • Hot chocolate powder • Washing powder • Flour • Sugar • Salt • Paprika • Spoon • Glasses (pots)

  5. I Predict: • I predict that the Hot chocolate will dissolve easily • I predict that the washing powder will not • I predict that the salt will get stuck to the bottom • I predict the sugar will break up but not dissolve • I predict the flour will go lumpy • I Predict the Paprika will dissolve

  6. What I’m going to do • I will test all of the powders in the same amount of water and see what happens. I will be doing hot water and cold water and other.

  7. Sugar Sugar before water in Sugar, after 20 stirs and water in

  8. Hot chocolate Before water in Water in

  9. Cold water investigation

  10. Paprika Before water in Water in and 20 stirs after

  11. Washing powder then flour After water in and 20 stirs Water not in then water in and 20 stirs

  12. Were my predictions correct? • I predict that the Hot chocolate will dissolve easily • I predict that the washing powder will not • I predict that the salt will get stuck to the bottom • I predict the sugar will break up but not dissolve • I predict the flour will go lumpy • I Predict the Paprika will dissolve • Wrong, it dissolved a bit but most lumpy • Wrong, the washing powder did but some didn’t • Correct the salt went down and stuck together • Wrong the sugar did dissolve AND break up • Correct, the flour did go lumpy • The paprika did dissolve but most didn’t and floated on top What I predicted What I found out

  13. No picture were taken during the hot water experiment, but I did record My results.

  14. Have some fun! I did a small experiment with lemonade and sugar and salt

  15. Sugar and salt.... WITH LEMONADE Salt Sugar

  16. My Results • I found that the salt dissolved the most and the sugar took a while but it dissolved in the end! (looks the same but there is change!)It look like nothing but there is something there but the picture is a bit blurred

  17. What I learnt • I learnt that even though it is paprika and salt and things you wouldn’t expect, doesn’t mean that they can’t dissolve. I thought that only hot chocolate was going to dissolve so I was surprised. I enjoyed doing this and it was quite fascinating as I found out the results! It’s better than sitting down and writing: what is dissolving... I’m glad I could do something. I would like more homework like this  

  18. Well done! • You have observed closely, good • You have presented your findings on a chart, good recording • You have devised a fair test • You have predicted • You have extended your test and discovered something new. • Excellent science ! • AAA ( 3 stars)
