  14. Hace+que • This construction can be used in two ways: • To express for how long something has been going on (present) • To express how long AGO something happened. (preterit) • If “hace” starts the sentence, you need a “que” before the verb • If a verb starts your sentence, you need an “hace” in front of the time period. • Modelos: • Hacetresañosqueyoestudioespañol. • Yoestudioespañolhacetresaños. • I have been studying Spanish for three years.   15. El Imperfecto We use the imperfect to “set the scene”, give background information or talk about things that we “used to” do. The imperfect has neither a definite beginning or definite ending. It is thought of as the “descriptor”. In English, it is thought of as “was/were/used to” Miguel hablaba con susprimostodos los veranos. De niño, yo era delgada y alta.
