  • Our vision is to make volunteering, social action, entrepreneurship and other positive activities, which lead to increased well-being, aspirations, skills and experience, available to all young people regardless of their ability, status or background.

How will it work
How will it work?

  • The indicative funding for Greater Manchester is £9.6 million over five years

  • GMCVO is responsible for bringing together relevant stakeholders to design a delivery programme

  • GMYN will be managing the GM Talent Match Youth Panel.

  • Identifying the problems and finding solutions without reinventing the wheel.

  • Youth led

What have we found out so far
What have we found out so far?

  • The barriers for young people finding employment appear to fit into two categories.

    - Emotional/personal barriers, such as lack of confidence and self esteem. This is not helped by the current provision of a more generic approach to supporting young people to find employment

    - Practical barriers, such as lack of suitable clothes for interview or a shortage of money for transport. It also expands to an overall lack of experience (of general life skills as well as work placed experience).

Identified solutions
Identified solutions…

  • The need for a more intensive personalised “youth focussed” approach.

  • A joint approach to communication and referral processes .

  • Address employers barriers – “educating” employers/changing recruitment practices.

  • Address employment market barriers - encouraging work tasters, volunteering etc.

  • Address society barriers - engage wider community, bring different groups together

  • Self employment – provide support and encouragement and identify opportunities.
