  4. 3a What are learners’ achievement and standards in their work? • the standardslearners reach as indicated by their test and examination results, taking account of: any significant variations between groups of learners, subjects, courses and key stages; trends over time; comparisons with other schools; whether learners reach challenging targets • - the standards of learners’ current work in relation to their learning goals (noting any significant differences between current work and recent results) • learners’ progressrelative to their starting points and capabilities, with any significant variations between groups of learners • making clear whether there are any groups that are underachieving and could be doing better)

  6. Using Benchmark Statements and The SEF Template The template has been designed to cover all aspects that might be required in section 3 of the SEF document. At each point, the template refers to the accompanying benchmark statements. Thus, statement A refers to the attainment of average points score at Key stage 1. In each of the benchmark statements, high performance is to the left, running through to a low performance statement on the right.

  7. Activity Using the exemplar panda provided, study the template and agree the most appropriate benchmark statement for Statement A Repeat this exercise for statement E Using your benchmark statement choices for Statements A and E, construct an opening paragraph for your SEF section 3

  8. Activity Repeat the previous activity for Statements B to D (and E) The difference with this activity is that you may need to merge together the statements for each of the subjects, rather than repeat the same thing 3 times

Activity Access the benchmark statements from the cfbt website www.cfbt.com/sislincs Using the exemplar school and the statements, produce the opening paragraph for KS2 progress using statements R and V Now access your own school either on paper copy or at www.raiseonline.org.uk. Begin the process of writing your own SEF

  15. Working out CVA Actuals added (1229) divided by 43 pupils = 28.6 Predicted added (1109.3) divided by 39 pupils = 28.4 CVA is 100 + (actual average – predicted average) Is 100+ (28.6 - 28.4) =100.14

Adapting CVA Try producing a new one for only those pupils who have been in the school for at least 2 years Try producing a new one using fine grades ie CVA assumes level 3 is 3B (21 points) 4 is 4B (27 points). What if all your pupils were 3A (23 points). That would significantly change your CVA
