  1. Closing the gap What is it and why do we want to close it?

What is the GAP? • What do you think “Closing the Gap” is all about? • The Gap refers to the difference in life expectancy between indigenous and non-indigenous Australians. • Life expectancy means how long people are expected to live. This is an indicator of a persons general overall health. • The “Gap” at the moment is about 11 years. This means that on average, non-indigenous Australians live approximately 11 years more than indigenous Australians.

  4. What does this tell us? Information level Each group (3/4 people) needs to complete one of the following before reporting back to the class. • Find 4 achievements of the Close the Gap campaign. • List two people in the video and explain why they support the Close the Gap campaign. • List three things that will happen if the Close the Gap campaign doesn’t keep it’s funding. • List two of the different programs funded through the Close the Gap campaign and what they do.

Knowledge/Know-How Level In each group of 4, each person needs to complete one of the following activities (all 4 need to be completed by the group): • Find 4 achievements of the Close the Gap campaign. • List two people in the video and explain why they support the Close the Gap campaign. • List three things that will happen if the Close the Gap campaign doesn’t keep it’s funding. • List two of the different programs funded through Close the Gap and what they do.

  6. What does this tell us Wisdom Level Each group of 4 needs to create an oral presentation about the Close the Gap campaign. You should use the information from the video. You should include details about: • The achievements of the Close the Gap campaign. • Well known people in the video and explain why they support the Close the Gap campaign. • The effects of cutting off funding to the Close the gap programs • The different programs funded through Close the Gap and what they do.
