Call forwarding typically can redirect incoming calls to any other domestic telephone number, but the owner of the forwarded line must pay any long distance charges for forwarded calls redirected outside that number's local calling area.  Useful for very mobile persons who may not want to miss incoming calls. 8. 4-Abbreviated dialing : Abbreviation dialing is the use of a short telephone numbers to reach public services. Typically these are two or three digits, and are most commonly known as being emergency telephone numbers like 9-9-9, 1-1-2 and 9-1-1 You may be calling a few people very frequently. It is possible to program these numbers as abbreviated codes of 1 or 2 digits. A maximum of 20 numbers can be programmed for abbreviated dialing. It is ideal for STD/ISD.

  9. Procedure:

  10. 5- Calling Line Identification Presentation (CLIP):

  11. 6-Caller ID (caller identification, CID), or calling line identification presentation (CLIP): Caller ID  is atelephoneservice, available in analog and digital phone systems and mostvoiceover Internet Protocol(VoIP) applications, that transmits acaller's number to thecalled party'stelephoneequipment during theringing signal, or when the call is being set up but before the call is answered. Where available, caller ID can also provide a name associated with the calling telephone number. • Caller ID may be used to track down or limit the impact oftelemarketers, • prank calls, and other annoyances. However, it can also impede • communication by enabling users to become evasive. The concept • behind caller ID is the value ofinformed consent; however, it also • poses problems for personalprivacy.

  12. ELECTRONIC LOCKING: Subscriber trunk dialing (STD) is a facility that enables users to make trunk(long distance) calls without the assistance of an operator. The facility is prevalent in Indian telecom companies, including BSNL. If you want to prevent people from making long distance calls on yourBSNL phone, you should consider locking STD. In this way, someone can make long distance calls on your phone only after entering a secret code. For 100% protection against improper use, you can lock your telephone electronically. Here, you only know the secret code. You can lock/allow Local, STD or ISD calls in many way viz. all calls allowed, only local calls allowed, only STD & Local calls allowed, all outgoing calls barred etc.

  13. 8-Call Conferencing : Aconference callis atelephone callin which thecalling partywishesto have more than onecalled partylistens in to theaudioportion of thecall. The conference calls may be designed to allow the called party toparticipate during the call, or the call may be set up so that the called party merely listens into the call and cannot speak. It is sometimes calledATC(Audio Tele-Conference).

  14. Conference call can be designed so that the calling party calls the other participants and adds them to the call; however, participants are usually able to call into the • conference call themselves by dialing a telephone number that connects to a "conference bridge" (a specialized type of equipment that links telephone lines). • Companies commonly use a specialized service provider who maintains the conference bridge, or who provides the phone numbers and PIN codes that participants dial to access the meeting or conference call.

  15. ISDN(Integrated service digital network). An ISDN subscriber can establish two simultaneous independent calls (exceptwhen the terminal equipment is such that it occupies two 'B' channels for one callitself like in video conferencing etc.) on existing pair of wires of the telephone line(Basic rate ISDN) where as only one call is possible at present on the analog line/telephone connection. The two simultaneous calls in ISDN can be of any type likespeech, data, image etc. ISDN also supports a whole new set of additional facilities, called Supplementary Services. Digital Telephone -with a facility to identify the calling subscriber number andOther facilities. Data Transmission at 64 Kbps with ISDN controller card

  16. ISDN dial up access: Subscribers can have blazing fast Internet surfing anddownload speeds in64 and 128 Kbps ISDN dial up connections. The uniform all. India access no. forISDN access is '172225'.

  17. BROADBAND Connection : The term broadband refer s to the wide bandwidth characteristics of a transmission medium and its ability to transport multiple signals and traffic types simultaneously. The medium can be coax, optical fiber, twisted pair or wireless Broadband service is based on DSL technology (on the same copper cable that is used for connecting telephone). This provides high speed internet connectivity.

  18. Broadband refers to a communication bandwidth of at least 256 Kbit/s. • . Each channel is 6 MHz wide and it uses an extensive range of frequencies • to effortlessly relay and receive data between networks. . The wider (or broader) • the bandwidth of a channel, the greater the information-carrying capacity, • given the same channel quality. • Intelligent Network Services • An intelligent network is a service independent telecommunication network. That • is intelligence is taken out of switches and placed in computers. This • provides the network operator the means to provide services efficiently. • Some Services under IN services are – • Virtual private network (Access code 1801) • Universal Access Number service (Access Code: 1860/1868) • Televoting services (VOT) (Access code : 1803,1861) • Personalized Ring Back Tone service: • MultiPlay

  19. Virtual private network (Access code 1801) The VPN service allows public network operators to provide private network features, e.g. Private Numbering Plan (PNP) and Screening capabilities, using the public network infrastructure. The Service Subscriber can directly manage. and administer his VPN via the Customer Control feature. VPN is typically used to interconnect geographically distributed PBXs. This service enables the subscribers to form an imaginary network within a real network on existing telephone lines.

  20. 6 Universal Access Number service (Access Code: 1860/1868) • This service allows a subscriber to have a universal number (UAN). All • the incoming calls for this number shall be routed to different destinations • depending upon the geographical location of the caller, the time, the day, or the • date on which the calls are made.
