Written Response April 29

Matter can be changed both physically and chemically. Describe what a physical change in matter is and give an example. Next describe what a chemical change in matter is and give an example.

Brainstorm first, then construct your sentences

Written response

  • Matter has characteristic properties that can be changed both physically and chemically. A physical change includes properties like color, density and melting point. An example of a physical change would be tearing a whole piece of paper in half; it is still paper, now it is just 2 separate pieces of paper. A chemical change includes properties like reactivity, combustibility, and acidity. An example of a chemical change would be burning the 2 pieces of paper; it is no longer paper as you have chemically changed its composition
