  1. Foreshadowing & Outcomes Of Mice and Men Chapter 5

  2. Warm-Up (top left side) Foreshadowing = déjà vu (French for already seen) or “I’ve seen that before!”; when the author gives hints about future events. Ex) When Lennie forgets about “not saying nothing” to the boss and speaks, it foreshadows that he will tell other people like Crooks about the dream farm.

  3. Warm-Up Activity • Write THREE examples of ways that Steinbeck foreshadows Curley’s wife’s death. • When _________________ (event), it foreshadows ________________________. • When _________________ (event), it is a hint that _______________________________. • When _________________ (event), it foretells ___________________________.

  4. Through Activity (right side) • Paste the Conflict and Outcomes page into your notebook. • Highlight the conflict definition. • Highlight each of the differenttypes of conflict, using color to organize. • Complete the graphic organizer at the bottom of the page alone or with the help of peers who have the same colored paper as you.

  5. Cool-Down (bottom left side) • Based on what you know about foreshadowing, conflict, and outcomes predict what will happen to THREE characters from the novel. • Since George ________________ (event) in the book, I predict that he will _______________. • I predict Curley will ________________ because in the book he _____________ (event). • Steinbeck’s description of how Candy ________________ (event) makes me think that he will _________________________.
