  1. Renewable Sources Of Energy Seminar on- By- Shamsad Arjumand Haque

  2. Introduction • Renewable energy is which comes from natural resources such as : sunlight wind rain tides and geothermalheat • Renewable energy replaces conventional fuels in four distinct areas :Power generation, hot water/space heating, transport fuels and rural energy services. • Renewable technologies are also suited to rural and remote areas, where energy is often crucial in human development.

  3. Mainstream forms of renewable energy Wind power is resultant from uneven heating of the Earth`s surface from the Sun and the warm centre. Most modern wind power is generated in the form of electricity by converting the rotation of turbine blades into electrical current through an electrical generator. . The wind energy potential of India is about 45,000 MW out of which power of 8748 MW has been installed in India till 31st March 2008. 800 stations in 24 states with 193 wind monitoring stations are in operation. Wind energy as renewable resource of energy

  4. Hydropower as renewable resource of energy India is gifted with economically exploitable and feasible hydro potential assessed to be about 84,000 MW. In addition, 6780 MW in terms of installed capacity . Use of dam, damless & microhydro projects in India. A hydropower project Energy in water can be harnessed and used. Since water is about 800 times denser than air, even a slow flowing stream of water, or moderate sea swell, can yield considerable amounts of energy.Water can be used to generate electricity using turbines, or can be used mechanically to do useful work. It is a very common resource of energy in India.

  5. Solar Energy as Renewable Resource of Energy Solar energy is the energy derived from the sun through the form of solar radiation. Solar powered electrical generation relies on photovoltaics and heat engines. A partial list of other solar applications includes space heating and cooling through solar architecture, daylighting, solar hot water, solar cooking, and high temperature process heat for industrial purposes. A monocrystalline solar cell

  6. Solar bowl, produce steam for coocking Solar photovoltaic plantfor home lighting, street lighting, solar lanterns for irrigation and water pumping.

  7. Biomass Biomass functions as a sort of natural battery for storing solar energy, when plant biomass is burnt. Biofuel Liquid biofuel is usually either bioalcohol such as bioethanol or an oil such as biodiesel. Trees, grass ,sugarcane are being used to produce biofuels.

  8. Geothermal energy Geothermal energy is energy obtained by tapping the heat of the earth itself, both from kilometers deep into the Earth's crust in some places of the globe or from some meters in geothermal heat pump in all the places of the planet . Ocean energy Systems to harvest utility-scale electrical power from ocean waves have recently been gaining momentum as a viable technology .

  9. Economic trends First, once the renewable infrastructure is built, the fuel is free forever. Second, while fossil fuel technologies are more mature, depleting rapidly, and cause great pollution, renewable energy technologies are being rapidly improved. Third, once the world makes a clear commitment to shifting toward renewable energy, the volume of production will itself sharply reduce the cost . Global renewable energy investment growth (1995-2007)

  10. Conclusion • India is blessed with abundance of water, sunlight, and biomass. Dynamic efforts during the past two decades are now bearing fruit as people in all walks of life have become more aware of the benefits of renewable energy. India has the world`s largest programme for renewable energy. Prime Minister controls the activities of the Department of Nonconventional Energy Sources. The activities of this department promote renewable energy technologies, an environment conducive to promote renewable energy technologies and renewable energy resource assessment. India stands at a promising position to acquire one of the most prestigious rankings as a supreme nation using renewable resources of energy at its best.
