  1. Homework Answers • To Worksheet X in the booklet

  2. Geography IA To what extent does Hong Kong fit the pattern of decreasing land values from the PLVI expected from the bid-rent theory and other land use models?

  3. Hypothesis • Hypothesis 1: • The number of floors of buildings in Hong Kong will decrease as you move away from the PLVI, or • Hypothesis 2: • The number of floors of buildings in Hong Kong will not decrease as you move away from the PLVI

  4. Activity • Have a copy of Waugh to hand • What theories or models relate to this hypothesis (what does PLVI mean)? • Explain how these models imply that buildings would decrease in height as you move away from the PLVI: • Bid-rent theory • Burgess Land Use Model • Why might HK not fit these models? • Are there theories/models that explain why places might not fit these basic models (i.e. more detailed models)?

  5. Practical considerations • What should we use as our PLVI? • How should we collect the data? • What problems do you foresee with your method to collect data - what erroneous factors may affect our results? • For example, there are no buildings between 20-200m north of the PLVI – why? • How would an MTR station affect the results? • What can you do to minimise the effects of these erroneous factors?

  6. Homework • Complete Worksheet X in the booklet by next lesson

  7. What do the pictures mean? You can discuss the work I’m teaching – listen! Work in silence Try to answer questions if you can Work in a group
